SkyART Announces SkyWAY Virtual Studio

SkyWAY goes Digital

As the SkyART community practices social distancing and staff works from home during the Shelter in Place ordered by our governor, we feel a strong call to action. We’ve thought long and hard about this and what tone to take here with all that is going on, and we choose to remain positive but avoid irreverence. That said, we want everyone to know, we are still here for our participants.

Starting this week, SkyART will be providing online SkyWAY webinars, a virtual classroom of sorts, hosted live on our social media accounts and posted to Youtube. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook, and please stay tuned as we post every day. SkyART staff and Teaching Artists will be providing a wide variety of content for at-home art making activities such as portraiture, watercolor, collage and even cooking or sharing our favorite piece of art! We’re looking for artists who want to get involved. Reach out if you have an idea for a SkyWAY Virtual StudioCheck out this Easy Paper Marbling webinar by Ellen and Liang!

Art Material Giveaway

On March 20, we put together 25 art supply kits to give away to the kids and families who come to SkyART every day. We put out a call on social media and via text message to stop by SkyART from 3-6pm, but by 4pm every single bag was already gone. Luckily, staff scrambled to put together more bags and soon we had given away more than 50 bags of art supplies for our participants. Yesterday, March 24, with a generous donation, we gave away 23 more bags in just 5 minutes!
Donate or visit our Amazon wishlist so we can give more youth the creative outlet most take for granted.
Grace is a new SkyWAY participant
Grace is a new SkyWAY participant who was nervous to be around so many new kids on her first day at SkyART just a month ago. Today she took home her bag of free art supplies and gave us a big smile.

Many kids asked, “when will you be open again?” This is why it’s so vital that we remain here as a resource for our kids and community.

Stay tuned and stay healthy and know we will weather this storm!
