We are excited to introduce an innovative new approach to our Studio Programs that we call the SkyWAY! The SkyWAY is a shift in perspective, blurring the lines of formal art education and focusing on the idea that art making is an inherently educational experience. Guided by a collaborative cohort of resident teaching artists, SkyWAY participants engage in a broad variety of creative forms and activities. From sculpting to cooking, from 3D printing to painting, our young artists are encouraged to move freely and to explore at their own pace. Through both one-on-one mentoring and collaborative group experiences, we see our participants are more engaged, we know discipline problems have pretty much disappeared, and we feel the SkyWAY is effectively responding to the needs and assets of our community.

In keeping with an abiding commitment to our young people and the neighborhoods they call home, the SkyWAY is not only a reach back to our roots as an organization, in the openness and the emphasis on art making as a means of connecting and building community, it is also a bold step into the future. In practical terms, we have more than tripled our investment in our Studio Programs, simultaneously broadening the range of creative options available and deepening the capacity of our Teaching Artist cohort, members of which see the SkyWAY as part of their individual (and collaborative) art practices.

The SkyWAY program runs Wednesday-Friday from 3-6pm for youth 7 and up and Tuesdays for students 13-24 or by invitation only. True to our mission, all SkyART programs are FREE.
