The SkyART CREATE Fund has been established thanks to the generous contribution from Robert Veasey, a distinguished journalist and news producer in Chicago for four decades. Mr. Veasey’s vision is to provide avenues to various postsecondary opportunities for young artists associated with SkyART.
Beginning in 2023, SkyART will begin offering annual scholarships for up to three current SkyART artists totaling $10,000. Because we recognize that traditional university isn’t right for everyone, we also invite applications for trade schools, artist residency programs or study abroad opportunities. In addition to tuition, the scholarship may be used for room and board, equipment and supplies, or travel expenses. Applicants will be assessed and scholarships will be awarded by an independent group of educators, SkyART board members and Bob Veasey.
The Bob Veasey Scholarship was founded through a generous donation from Mr. Veasey which will ensure sustainable, ongoing opportunities for post-secondary education for SkyART youth. As a journalist and news producer in Chicago for 40 years, he witnessed the daily toll of violence in our city, and was inspired to act.
“I have always loved this city and felt there must be a way to help end this recurring nightmare. There are many causes for this epidemic and no single remedy. I began thinking perhaps a scholarship fund could provide a launching pad to help some children find their future and chase their dreams. A few years ago I was introduced to the people at SkyART. For children deprived of opportunity and resources they provided the most important thing, hope. And they were doing it on a daily basis. I was in awe. It became apparent very quickly that this place was the perfect landing spot for a scholarship program. Fueled by the belief that everyone should help who they can, when they can, it is our hope that this scholarship can help open doors, inspire hope and change lives.” — Bob Veasey
This scholarship goes beyond covering tuition; it can also be utilized for expenses such as room and board, equipment, supplies, or travel. Our goal is to empower young artists to pursue their passions and dreams by providing financial support and resources.
