Visiting Artists Special Workshops with Pirooz and Alberto

Visiting Artists Special Workshops with Pirooz and Alberto

Pirooz Kalayeh, visiting artist from Los Angeles, taught both SkyWAY and Project 3rd Space participants about the craft of making a movie. Pirooz is working on a feature length documentary titled “Sometimes I Dream in Farsi” which examines his childhood memory of being refused a haircut in the USA for being Iranian. During his workshop, students created comic strips and learned the art of storyboarding a movie. Pirooz shot footage and did interviews with participants that may be included in the final film! For more information about his project go here. To read his blog post about working with SkyART go here.

Alberto Ortega is an architect and artist based in Chicago whose work crosses performance, design research and site specific interventions.  Alberto spent three weeks as Visiting Artist during Project 3rd Space on Saturdays. During his time with SkyART, he worked with a group of participants to create a video project that combined drawing, 3D software, green screen technology and writing to reimagine the classic silent film “A Trip to the Moon”. Check out their final project below!
